On 15 May 2012, ours group that lead is Afifah is present ours debate.

Dr.Tan ask us to write  transcript of our debate  as an affirmative team on a topic "DESIGN SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS". Really bad when i am presenting because not enough time...heheheh...so, this is my last assignment in Aesthetic Design..

Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh and a very good evening to our smarter lecturer Dr.Tan and all fellow friend. First of all i not agree with a negative point because i think words also include into design. Did you see that erm..words can create  typo and create a logo. So ,it also a design. First, typography also is a design and also  a logo. First, first impression for me, first impression is last impression. this is the era of perspec..of percep...perception where things analyse on the first sight on the perception they they..they erm..they carry. For example, a man am.. which a with a wear a wear a...dress at the in the morning with three..erm..three pieces of suit is perceived to be a corporate person am.. compare as a man with wear a funky dressed up em..at the night so he is perceived to am.. to be a party maniac. So,am.. thats how human build perceptions erm.. about the things that they see, whether it be another human and what so ever..em.. the world has gone so materialistic erm..in making judgements about other things that is believed em whatever looks good must feel good. So, a design has many erm.. design has many erm... multiple definition. erm...design can also a art, design can be also an aesthetic and design also can erm.. have many..erm.. everything is a design.... for exmple design of a cover book.The poeple will see the design  of the  cover of the book. erm... because the design... if the design is very beutiful. so....the people will buy it.And i will conclude that. i will conclude erm...erm...that design will speaks louder than words..thank you..  :)

HAUNTED Animation..

The audience should be able to feel scary and suspend when watching the animation from the beginning to the end.

The evaluation of the chosen animation is emotivism. The criterion based on emotivism has been selected for example scary and suspend when watching this animation from the beginning to the end. Meanwhile, the others member list as the audience should be feel haunted while watching the movie to the extent where they imagine horror things when night appear as a objectivism, the audience should be amazed by the animation that they don’t feel bored even after watching it several times as a relativism and the audience should be able to remember half of the scene for a video for a long time. There are many sub-genre of horror, ranging from the modern day film to the slasher film. Some horror film has a monster, zombie, wolf, ghost and so on to take places during a post-apocalytic world and some dark religious theme. If I was to pick my favourite genre , it would be the horror film where all the scares are not come from a concrete, physical being but instead come a depths of our phycho.  

From that, we have argued about  the this animation point age limit and some of us think that this animation are suitable to certain kind of age. We also arguing about the too much horror that put in this animation should being accepted by the viewer but still other of us think that the exaggeration must not being form in this animation. Some of other members described the character must be good because the character are really the main of the story to make a life storyline, suitable with their background sound effect  and attractive but it depends on the storyline of the animation .The other member also refined the story concept of this animation are not achieved the target of the watchers feel and can easily accepted by the audience because had litter suspend from the beginning of the story but a few of us disagree because if we looked closely there are some extreme reaction among the story that are not suitable  to the child .

   Why we love (or hate) everyday thing

DONALD A. NORMAN

              Donald A. Norman is an academic in the field of cognitive science, design and usability engineering and a co-founder and consultant with the Nielsen Norman Group. He is the author of the book The Design of Everyday Things. Besides, he also is the author of twelve books, which have been translated into twelve languages. This time, I will write about him, Donald A. Norman Chapter 1-3 of Emotional Design : Why we love (or hate) the design of everyday things. This book is quite good than Schiller’s First Letter because the words in use is very simple and it is easier to understand. This book is about how we view everyday lifestyle with overall things in our life on which we like or dislike it. Moreover, it also about on how emotion related to design in our everyday life.

First of all, before I start to elaborate the content of the book, the first chapter is about attractive things works better. After reading all chapters, I think the first chapter is the most interesting part because I really understand it and very meaningful. The second chapter is about the multiple faces of emotion and design. As last but not least ,the third chapter is about the three level of design which are visceral, behavioural, and reflective. All this chapter are related to each other.

Based on my reading, I found that the main point of the content of the book is when we like to do something that we should do to focus to have a good quality of result and satisfy it. In our daily life there are three level system which are visceral, behavioural, and reflective. The suggestion that human attributes result from three different levels of the brain are from professors in the Psychology Department at Northwestern University which are, the automatic, prewired layer is called the visceral level, the part that contains the brain processes that control everyday behaviour known as behavioral level and the speculation part of the brain or the reflective level. Mostly, the visceral level is to make them feel comfortable and freedom.  A person faces an experiences at many level, but the only one may not at another.

While behavioral level is about experience with function and performance skill. Performance means how it does usability of function to describe how users understand how it works. If the product satisfied the three of this criteria , then the result is positive effect and so the otherwise. From this three criteria, reflective is the highest needed because we can reflect the past and analyse it for our future. In design, reflective is a long-term of feeling satisfaction produced by displaying and using a product. Therefore, all this three level are very important because to designers this means that no single product that can satisfy everyone.

When we are in the positive affect , it make the brain more focus because at that time we are in arouses curiosity, creativity and make the brain into an effective learning. Otherwise when in the negative affect, it make the brian less focus and likely to see you are sad and anxious.

What role do these states have in design? Firstly, we should be happy, relaxed, in a pleasant mood and more able to overlook and cope with minor problem with a device. Second, when people in anxious, they are  pretend to more focus and the designer  must pay special attention to ensure that all the information required is continually at hand, readily visible with clear feedback about that the device is performing. One interesting effect of the differences in thought processes of the two states is the impact upon the design process itself. Firstly, creativity is good for the designer to be relaxed and in a good mood. It also can warm up by telling jokes and playing games. No criticism is allowed! Real product will transformed that have been generated when creative stage is completed. Their anxiety helps them get the work done.

When people is under high anxiety or known as high negative affect, people will focus upon escape because natural response to push them harder. Designer will never lack for things to do, for new approaches to explore. The only way to satisfy a wide of variety of needs and preferences is to have a wide variety of products. There have a  conflict between emotion in design before real product provide a continual set of conflict. A person may interpret at many levels but what appeals at one level may not at another level. A successful design has to excel at all levels and finished their task eventhough the task is not easy. If the user of a product is satisfied it will give positive emotion result and otherwise if user is frustrated, it will give negative emotion result. Satisfying people’s true need in requirement of different cultures, age groups, social and national requirement is difficult and that’s why a distinction between needs and wants is important. Needs is necessary where wants is person ask for. Needs are determined by task where wants are determine by culture.  In design, we tend to associate emotion with beauty. We build attractive, colorful and cute things. We like attractive things because of that way they make us a feel . In reality life , it’s obvious seen that we like things that is attractive and dislike ugly things. Emotions reflect our personal experience, associations and memories. In muzium, miniature monuments or building exhibition are display not only for the artistic quality but also their sentimental value, for memory and history they have, in short for their emotion impact towards owners. Those of us viewing it did not necessarily have emotional attachment to the objects.

Photographs have special emotion appeal when they start to tell their stories. Personal photographs are mementos, reminders and social instruments , allowing memories to be shared across time, place and people. Although we like to look at photographs, we do not like to take the time to do the work required to maintain them and keep them accessible. The design challenge is to keep the virtues while removing the barriers which are make it easier to store, send, and share. Make it easier to find just the desired pictures years after they have been taken and put into storage. Those are not easy problem, but until they are overcome, we will not raise the full benefits of photography. Then nostalgic music set to a photo can evoke more feelings and memories of era in which the photo was taken, and a spoken story can help others to interpret the meaning of the photo, especially in the absence of the photographer.

In design, there is some permanent conflict among preferences of the popular target audience.  It is probably necessary to have multiple versions of the different market segments and it is also necessary to do rapid changes in the style and appearance the market dictates. Making movie or art is complex and difficult process and usually best design from a following great  theme is drive by one person. One thing that is very surely, the  conflict will continue as long as the creators of art, music and performance are not the same people as those who must pay to get them into the world.  A successful product comes from test and revise whereas a great product that can change the world comes from someone with clear vision.

Finally this is the summary of the three level :

v  Visceral – Appearance

v  Behavioral – Performance, function and well done of use

v  Reflective – Personal satisfaction and memories

           As a conclusion, emotion always happened in our daily life and also can give  negative or positive reaction and there are there levels in our brain called visceral level,behavioral level and reflective level. These levels related in each others and working in our life. Without these, we can not think  good idea to produced some real of product.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF AESTHETIC EDUCATION OF MAN

         FRIENDRICH-VON-SCHILLER

                  Broadly i personally defined, Aesthetics inform us about what is worth our time and interest in Beauty and Art, or in life in general through his research. For Schiller, it is the Aesthetic that everyone should come to allow the arrival of the true republic in which human beings as "not offend the freedom of others to confirm he had no dignity to throw to show mercy." Heart is important to make something beautiful like the writer said. Kantian system was invented by Immanuel Kant showed that some philosophers do not agree with the practical part, but they never do so. Schiller felt that just because their position will produce a different idea as others if their position stripped. According to him, the formal rules are better if taken from the inside instead of writing or of their own personal experiences in the world. Philosophers prefer to bow to their own weaknesses better than staying power borrowed and foreign support has become an issue. If indeed appear in the analysis report as a paradox, Schiller would argue that people do not recognize their own natural sense of what makes allies. He then began talking about the freedom to do what he wants.

                   Schiller discusses the time spent for people in everyday life in his second letter. He was less confident to use the freedom given to him. He also talked about the issues people need to spend his life for themselves as other countries do. Human should be given the freedom to express pent up their minds. Schiller afraid of the interest that is building the world will not involve themselves with the most perfect art, that people will be more concern about the status and position from the quality. Arts need to improve himself in the industry over the needs of the people because art is the daughter of freedom. In Vanity Fair, the spiritual service of art has no effect on them because people will take pride in appearance and ability. Philosophical imagination steal a promise after the other and smaller obstacles and limitations of science of art has been enlarged. The main focus has been given to the political arena by the philosophers as it is a place where they believe that the fate of great mankind to be decided. I think that politic have a bigger power to control community.

                    Human cannot act for the first time as long as  nature acts for  their independent intelligent criteria. In addition, countries were forced to be exposed to all human needs. But, people often are not satisfied with the laws so he shakes off  enacted by the spontaneous action. He had started with a clear vision and determination that will restore access as maturity  nature to recover his chillhood. Unfortunately at that time, the authorities are very firm but has no authority for  working blind. To work with the blind, who do not have the authority and independence to the bow of work to be done to adapt. Schiller plans to seek some support to continue the relationship without knowing the real situation of society they want to abolish them. But for those that still exist on this earth, the state raised the issue of repair. Appropriate support will not find the original character of human.

                    The author, Schiller said the only one who can guarantee the life through the influence of character can complete the transformation of the door without harming the moral principles. However, no physical force that could change the human personality because people will always live without the expected and uncertain. Unity can not be changed because it is large or the existence of the obligation to harmonize every human being who has the determination. He wrote that at the same time refer to a friend written Fichte: Lectures on Call directory. Now the man can be opposed to itself by means of a two-fold: either as a savage, when his feelings rule over principle, or as a barbarian, when his principles destroy his feelings. Violent hate art, and recognize nature as his despotic ruler barbarian laughs at nature, and dishonours, but he always walked with a more despicable than violence, to be a slave senses.                        People need to wake up from a long lethargy and self-deception. In the opinion of Schiller, of all parties to seize by force, no longer claim they were unjustly confiscated. Hope is in vain when the shaky nature, the foundations shake, tribute to the man at length as a goal, to make the basic right of freedom of political union. we deny the features in the legal and moral taste and cruelty in the field at the same time against the notion to accept the principle. This is because if the world will not have love for humanity and without loss of judgment and of course cannot judge the beauty and art. Besides that the reason the request is to improve our humanity and to create lasting beauty.
